We routinely advise and represent a wide range of clients on several high value and complex matters across a broad spectrum of areas of Nigerian and international law. Some of these matters include:

Arbitration
• Advising and representing a consortium of oil companies in relation to arbitration proceedings in respect of a $500 Milliondispute over the funding of a transaction to acquire a Nigerian upstream oil and gas asset.
• Advising and representing a leading Nigerian financial technology company in an international arbitration proceeding arising from an over €3Million dispute in respect of a software development agreement with a North African company.
• Acting as counsel in arbitration award enforcement proceedings concerning an over N900 Million award in respect of a dispute between one of Nigeria’s and Africa’s largest telecommunication companies.
• Representing the Government of one of the South SouthStates in the Supreme Court of Nigeria in appeals arising from an arbitration award of about N3 Billion made against the State in an arbitration concerning a dispute arising from a consultancy services agreement.
• Leading a consortium of Law Firms advising and representing the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) in relation to a dispute between the FGN and a gas processing company in respect of an arbitral award worth over $9 Billion arising from a transaction concerning a large gas processing facility in Nigeria.

Banking/Finance
• Advising and representing a leading Nigerian bank in a dispute over a gross sum of over £2 Billion arising from a claim made by a third party.
• Advising and representing a consortium of oil companies in relation to arbitration proceedings in respect of a $500 Milliondispute over the funding of a transaction to acquire a Nigerian oil and gas asset.
• Acting as lead Counsel to the Receiver and Manager appointed for one of Nigeria’s leading Steel companies in a debt recovery proceeding involving over N30Billion.
• Advising and representing a group of leading real estate companies in a debt recovery proceeding involving overN5Billion.
• Advising and representing an indigenous dredging company in a debt recovery proceeding involving overN2 Billion.
• Advising and representing a manufacturing company in a debt recovery proceeding involving over N700Million.

Constitutional/Electoral Law
• Advising and representing the Government of one of the South South States at the Supreme Court in a dispute with the Federal Government of Nigeria concerning the constitutionality of the Excess Crude Account maintained by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
• Advising and representing the Government of one of the South South States at the Supreme Court in a dispute with the Federal Government of Nigeria concerning the entitlement of the State to a significant amount of money on account of the derivation principle under the Constitution.
• Representing, at different times, States’ Governors at the Governorship Election Tribunals in respect of election petitions challenging their respective elections into office.
• Representing clients in several election petitions relating to elections into offices in the Senate, House of Representatives and States’ Houses of Assembly in different States across Nigeria.

Corporate/Company
• Representing one of the major shareholders in a leading civil engineering construction company in Nigeria in a complex shareholder dispute arising fromthe ownership structure and shares of the company valued at over $20 Million.
• Acting as lead counsel (in a consortium of Law Firms) representing a major downstream oil companyin a dispute between the company and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) concerning corporate governance matters. In this matter, the court made intervening orders restraining the SEC from removing the management of the company.
• Representing a market leading stockbroker in several disputes and claims worth a gross total of more than N6 Billionby customers and lenders in relation to activities in the Nigerian capital market.

Employment
• Advising and representing a large downstream oil company in employment related disputes and litigation claims in respect of its employees across Nigeria.

Energy/Oil and Gas
• Advising and representing an indigenous oil prospecting company in litigation proceedings against the Federal Government of Nigeria in respect of the revocation of its licence over its Oil Mining Lease (OML). In this matter the company’s OML was restored by the court.
• Representing an oil services company from the trial courtthrough the Supreme Court fora claim of over $22 Millionin adispute with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in respect of a consultancy services agreement concerning the Bonga Oilfield.
• Representing a community in the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria in an environmental claim of about $1.5 Billion against the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria.
• Representing the major steel manufacturers in and across Nigeria in a complex dispute against all the power distribution companies in Nigeria in relation to electricity tariffs applicable to those manufacturers under the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s Multi-Year Tariff Order.
• Representing an indigenous oil company in a $450 Million dispute with an international oil company in respect of the acquisition of an interest in a Nigerian oil mining lease. In this matter the first reported anti-arbitration injunction in respect of an international arbitration was made by the Nigerian Court of Appeal in relation to an arbitration in London.
• Advising and representing a consortium of oil companies in relation to arbitration proceedings in respect of a $500 Milliondispute over the funding of a transaction to acquire a Nigerian oil and gas asset.
• Represented the Government of Bayelsa State (GBS) at the Supreme Court of Nigeria in a dispute over the ownership of several high value oil wells lying along the boundary of Rivers and Bayelsa States in which judgment was delivered in favour of GBS.
• Advising an oil and gas Consortium in its bid to acquire the interests of a multinational oil company worth over $1.5 Billion in an Oil Mining Lease (OML)in respect of an oil Field located in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
• Advising and representing several major petroleum marketers in proceedings arising from petroleum subsidy payments.

Insurance
• Advising and representing an indigenous company in an arbitration claim against its hull and machinery insurer in relation to a claim of over N200 Millionarising from damage to a vessel in the course of a voyage to Nigeria.
• Advising one of the world’s largest reinsurance companies with respect to the Company’s proposed investments in Nigeria’s insurance sector.

Shipping/Maritime
• Advising and representing a maritime Authority in relation to a dispute involving over $22 Million arising from a joint venture arrangement between the Authority and its joint venture partners in respect of the management of the Access Channel of one of Nigeria’smaritime Ports.
• Advising and representing a multinational engineering company in an appeal against the Judgment of the High Court of Rivers State for a gross sum of over ₦2 Billion ina maritime accident claim.
• Representing a Nigerian commercial bank in a claim worth about N300 Million by a major fishing company in respect of damages allegedly arising from the execution of Orders made by the Federal High Court for the arrest of a vessel carrying its fish.

Tax
• Representing the Government of one of the South SouthStates in a set off dispute with the Federal Inland Revenue Service in respect of payments worth N10Billion due to the State from the Federal Government of Nigeria.
• Advising and representing a major Nigerian infrastructure concession company in a dispute with the Federal Inland Revenue Service concerning the applicability of Value Added Tax to certain services in the road transport sector.
